CLEVELAND WHIST CLUB

BOARD MEETING, UNIT 125, WEDNESDAY, September 9, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 5:45 PM by Ginny Young President.

Present: Ginny Young, Peter Miller, Cathy Wolford, Kermit Wolford, Wayne Ward, Harriet Kitay, Sue Pisanelli, Mary Lou Vermerris, Ellen Miles, Eva Lefton, Susan Stark.

Absent: Frank Scali, Ros Sukenik, Geraldean Jones, Bev Carter.

Guest: Sharon Fairchild.

Minutes were approved as corrected after a motion by Eva Lefton and second by Peter Miller.

Treasurer’s Report: Cathy reports that the budget will be ready next week.

President’s Report: no report.

Committee Reports:

Vichill League: Peter Miller reports that there are 36-38 teams. The teams are fluid at this point. Peter will mail out information to the teams next week.

Master/Future Master Night: Ellen Miles reports that there are 35 couples signed up. She asks for assistance setting up at 6:15 PM on October 7, 2009.

299’er event: Mary Lou Vermerris asked for committee to meet at her house to prepare for the October 17-18, 2009 event. Harriet Kitay and Sue Pisanelli volunteered.

District Director’s Report – August 2009. Sharon Fairchild reports from the ACBL Board. A written report was passed out and will be filed with these minutes. Among the many items of interest, the ACBL continues to be in good shape. The membership is up 1297 members. Stratification may be done in stratified pair and team events by average masterpoints (details in report). Units with D&O insurance were urged to inform the insurance company if they hear even a threat of a lawsuit. Kathy Wolford will check the status of the Unit’s Insurance.

District 5 Meeting Report: Sue Pisanelli attended the District 5 Meeting in Pittsburgh and reported. A copy of that report will be attached to the minutes. Briefly, Jan Assini announced that Unit 125 would have 2 Youth Bridge Clubs this year; one at Hillside Middle School with the Krejsa’s and a new one at Greenbriar Middle School with Sue Pisanelli. A motion was passed allowing the ACBL average masterpoint stratification in regional events for pairs and teams. New District officers are Mary Carns, President; John Toy, Vice President; and Brian Ellis, Treasurer.

Old Business:

Final Treasurer’s reports were given by Cathy Wolford.

Vichill League for 2010-2011: There was much discussion about the Vichill League. Eva Lefton suggests that we replace the 2 leagues with one and start in April. Wayne Ward suggests we have a 9 week event instead of an 8 week event. There are limits on extended team games that limit the league. It was suggested that a committee be formed to look into options and bring recommendations to the board. Interested parties for the committee include PatChisholm, Wayne Ward, Eva Lefton, Peter Miller, Sharon Fairchild, Donna Largent, and Bev Carter.
