Treasurer’s Report:

Kathy reported that there was nothing financially to report since last month’s report.  She handed out copies to those who were unable to attend the last meeting.

President’s Report:

Barb asked for names of candidates for the upcoming election.  Susan Stark reported that Mary Lou Vermerris and Ellen Miles had agreed to run.  Eva will check with Dick Burgess and Mort Pearce to see if they would run.  Bev to check with Frank Scali.  Susan Stark mentioned that players did not know where to vote.  It  is announced at the Sectional prior to each session that voting is taking place prior to each session.  It  will also be put in Bridging the Gap.

A Chairperson for the upcoming Unit Dinner   on May 17th  is needed.  Susan Stark volunteered to do this.  Barb said that we really need to promote this event to all the unit members.  She and Bev will create a flyer to be handed out at unit events.  Barb also asked that a poster be done outlining the qualifications of the candidates.  It was decided that if there were only 5 running it would not be necessary.  There was a discussion as to cost of the annual Unit dinner and the fact that the event always loses money since we have to guarantee 50 attendees and this did not happen last year.  Barb stated that it was not the Unit’s intent to make a profit. There was a discussion about moving to a different location but since time is short and publicity needs to be gotten into Bridging the Gap and Whistfully Yours right away, to keep our current location at St. Michael’s and discuss this for next year’s event.  Kermit Wolford made a motion to hold the dinner on May 17th at St. Michael’s.  Second by Wayne Ward.     Motion passed by majority

Vichill dates for 2009-2010 need to be set up.  Peter Miller and Donna Largent will continue to chair this event and Ginny Young will continue to do scoring.  There was a discussion as to location.  Cathy Wolford read the motion from our previous meeting that stated the board had voted to have this at Solon Party Center.  Peter Miller asked for volunteers to contact players to try to build up attendance at this event.

Committee Reports:

Ginny Young reported that she had received about 6 nominations for the Honorary Member of the Year Award and that they were all very qualified candidates.   Final nominations are due by April 1st.   Her committee will make recommendations to the board for a final decision on the recipient(s).  The award will be presented at the Unit Dinner in May.

Old Business:

Barb asked about the renovation of board cases.  Kermit Wolford said he would order 5 sets of polybrite labels and do the cases after the next sectional.

Wayne Ward said he had reserved the upstairs room at the Blue Fig 6372 SOM Center Road, Solon for the combined board meeting on April 15th.  Time will be 5:00pm.  Cost is $10 per person with a cash bar as previously voted on last year.

New Business:

Bev asked about the location of the Vichill Awards Night on May 6th.  After discussion Peter Miller made a motion to combine this with the Unit Dinner on May 17th.  Second by Ken Resnick.

11 in favor, 2 abstained – Motion passed

Meeting was adjourned at 7:10pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Beverly Carter
